Upcycled, recycled Christmas tree! The trunk is a beer bottle with a few pennies inside for stability, the branches are made from a Pottery Barn Christmas catalogue, a wine cork is wrapped with knotted leather which is the base for the silver metal star cut from a coffee can! I loved making this environmentally, conservative, adorable little tree!!

Holiday Jewelry Show
The sideways cross necklace.......all sterling silver with a couple of beads dangling from the clasp. This was a hit at the holiday vendor show I participated in yesterday. Sold out and took some orders!
This is very trendy, the celebs have been wearing them, etc. I searched for the meaning of the sideways cross and found this to be the most helpful:
"There are a few beliefs for the meaning of the sideways cross. One meaning is that it represents the earth. It also represents the human race and that the horizontal orientation of the cross means that the humanity is positioned right in the middle of heaven and hell. This makes it a neutral symbol. Because of this meaning, some people say that wearing a sideways cross necklace means that you are aware of your place in this existence; And that you are grounded here on earth.
There are also people who believe that the sideways orientation of a necklace symbolizes Jesus Christ carrying the cross, this is one of my favorite interpretations.
It has also been based on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The horizontal orientation of the necklace connotes that Jesus Christ has actually risen and that the cross has already been laid down to signify that humanity has been saved. Sideway crosses are even engraved in tombstones and graves to symbolize resurrection of the soul during the coming of Judgment Day. At the end of the day, the true meaning of the sideway cross will depend on the person who is wearing it."
It is a very flattering piece of jewelry.

Handmade Paper Beads.....
Upcycled times 10!! Handmade paper beads, made from recycled cereal boxes, junk mail, catalogues, etc. They are hand cut, rolled and glazed for a colorful, artsy look strung on leather with some silver beads and toggles or handmade clasps.Very pretty and certainly unique, no two alike! My family is very happy since I always chose our cereal by the lowest sugar and highest fiber content, now I choose by prettiest cereal box! So, yes, Fruit Loops are now in my pantry....

Upcycled copper and sterling silver rings
Electrical wire and copper tubing and sterling silver wire were hammered, stamped and formed to create these rings. My mother, who is 82 and very hip by the way, wears a copper thumb ring like the one in the middle and swears it relieves the arthritis pain in her hands!

Upcycled copper bracelet
Copper tubing......hammered and oxidized. The oxidation gives the copper a unique finish with blues and greens. The photos do not do it justice. The top bracelet has a sterling ring with a turquoise wire wrapped stone dangling from it. I stamped a quote from Marilyn Monroe on the inside for fun which reads, "I AM VERY DEFINITELY A WOMAN AND I ENJOY IT."
The next bracelet has an amazonite bead in blue and brown wrapped in sterling and dangling from
hammered sterling. I stamped a quote from the outspoken Mae West on the inside which reads, "YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE, BUT IF YOU DO IT RIGHT, ONCE IS ENOUGH."

Upcycled Handmade Jewelry
"Upcycling" is the new recycling. The idea of upcycling is converting materials from lesser value to higher value. For instance, this bracelet is made from copper, electrical wire! After stripping the rubber insulation from the copper wire, I then began oxidizing the copper for an antique like finish. Then the creative juices began to flow, hence the completed wire wrapped gemstone (aquamarine crystal gemstones and amazonite from Brazil) bracelet pictured above!
